Day 1

Found a few more from Day 1 that I wanted to share. This one was to show how much we LOVE the people crowding us at the Peabody!

Memphis Day 1

We started day 1 walking around the main square in Collierville. Most of the shops were closed so we did not stay long.

Next we headed to downtown Memphis and went straight to Beale St.

Tried on hats at A. Schwab's

Then went to lunch at Rendezvous! Yummy ribs!

Then we tried (for awhile) to catch the trolley

Finally got a ride and rode the river route

Went to the Civil Right Museum and met Dr. Billy Kyles who was the man standing next to MLK Jr when he was shot.

Then back on the trolley for another ride. This time to the Peabody

We had to watch the ducks. Actually the crowd of people watching the ducks put on a much better show.

We headed to the Young Ave Deli for supper then back to the cottage to crash. Check back later this week to see Day 2 and 3.

Guess what time it is

Pool Time!!! We found out yesterday that Mrs. Kathy's pool was ready. About 25 min later, we were jumping in. No lie! I have never shaved my legs that quickly before! It was heaven!!! She has a new float that I have officially claimed for myself and threatened the boys that if they kill it by using it in some of their trick jumps off of the driving board, I will be VERY unhappy! I could not believe how warm the water is already. We only stayed for a couple hours and then had to come home. Hope to go back soon. I wanted to go today, but Stephen had too much school work to do tonight. Boo! So its just me, the laptop, and the TV. At least I have control of the remote!

But we still had a blast playing tennis today. Amanda Shelton read on my blog a couple months ago that we were thinking about playing some tennis. She had recently bought a racket and decided tennis was not for her so she gave it to me one day. We went to Walmart and picked one up for Stephen and got some tennis balls too. We finally decided to give it a try today. Now, you must understand, I had hours and hours of tennis lessons as a child. Mom is all about learning "lifetime" sports that you can play into your 80s. Unfortunately, those lessons never really stuck. We went down to the park today and started out not doing so well. I remembered how to serve but was not really into running after the ball when Stephen would hit it back. Plus it was sooooo hot out there today. We did get better the longer we stayed out there and I did find the energy to hustle after the ball a few times. We had a ton of fun laughing at each other. Don't worry we are not giving up biking at all! We just wanted to do something active today that did not require loading up the bikes and driving somewhere that was safe to ride. We finished just in time too. It started raining as we pulled back into the driveway.

We decided to have a date night at home tonight and grill some steaks. Stephen did such a good job! They were so tasty! And way cheaper than if we had gone out.

Stephen wanted me to take an "after"shot of his plate. He definitely got his money's worth of that steak!

Memorial Day

My mom had some friends that are trying to adopt a little boy. They have tshirts that they have for sale to raise money for the adoption. Tracy comes to town

Mom came for a visit this weekend. Dad is gone on a mission trip and she is making the rounds visiting some of her peps. She started the tour in Alabama. We had no plans for this weekend and just hung out. Saturday we all slept in and then woke up and put together a pancake breakfast. Then Mom and I headed to Columbus for some shopping. I went to Old Navy to hit up the Memorial Day sale and got several things I have been hunting for. Last night, Stephen grilled and his parents came over for supper. (Sorry, no food pics. We ate everything up too quickly). This morning, we let Mom experience our typical Sunday. We headed to church and then went to lunch with the Blakes. Then we loaded up and went for a bike ride down to the river and around downtown Columbus. While we were on the MUW campus, we walked around the new gym. It was amazing! I was so jealous that we did not have that when I was there on campus. Then we watched the SEC baseball championship. LSU beat Bama in the 11 inning! Then more eating and now home to chill in front of the tv and computer. Mom is heading back to Louisiana tomorrow and we are going to spend time with the Richards then head to T-town for a little more shopping!

So tonight I made Natchitoches meat pies for supper. I found a new food blog that I love!! I pretty much want to make every single recipe on it. I have looked at it dozens of times and still have not read them all yet. But dont worry, I will get through them soon. I know! I am weird! I read recipes like some people read books.
I forget that people not from Lousisiana don't know what Natchitoches meat pies are. I guess its like nabs. We got into that discussion Sunday when our resident Yankee looked totally confused when we were talking about eating nabs for lunch. Ha ha! Anyway, I have had this recipe bookmarked for a couple weeks and decided to make it tonight. My mom always made corn on the cob to go with it but I wanted to change it up so I also made the corn salad from this blog. I loved it! But Stephen was not a huge fan. Well, back to the meat pies. These are from a place called Natchitoches, La which is famous for three things- Christmas lights, the movie Steel Magnolias, and of course meat pies! Stephen had never had them before but I knew he would love them. And guess what, he did! I did not take a picture because the process took longer than I had thought and we were STARVING!! We usually eat about 5:30 and it was 7 before we sat down tonight. But the pictures above looked just like mine so you get the idea.
